In as much as people would never wish for a disaster to occur, measures to handle them are still being put in place. Governments and humanitarian organizations have heavily invested in facilities and equipment to handle them at any given time. People have to also be trained for them to be in a position to use them effectively. There are specific items used in helicopter search and rescue training.

There is a certain type of which that is attached to a rescue helicopter to help in air lifting purposes as well as dropping its occupants. It is mostly used in areas that are not favorable for landing or the activity has to be hurriedly undertaken. In training, they are used to practically instill the required skills to use them.

A disaster may strike at any given time. Incas it occurs at night, rescue missions may be difficult to undertake. To ensure that the team is not restricted at any time of the day, special torches are used during the night. The torches are so bright and can provide enough light to undertake any activity needed. The trainees should know how they are operated and also some do some practice on the same.

Another type of equipment used is night vision glasses. These are made in a way that enables their users to clearly see at nights. They tend to be special in a way that they can provide visual to appear just as they look like in normal day light. They are also sensitive in that they can recognize live things when looking at the eyes. Some skills are required to use them and they have to be passed to whoever will make use of them.

For easy movements and operations during missions, specific types of clothing must be put on. This includes the survival jacket. It finds its name due to the fact that it helps in survival at extreme areas. It is equipped with an extra torch and a whistle among other items. It may be uncomfortable to those who are not used to wearing it and they have to be made familiar with its use.

A flight helmet is worn while in the helicopter. This is a protective gear in that it protects the head in case there is an accident. It also has some additional features such as a microphone for communication and extra night vision glasses. It is mandatory for every occupant in the flight to have them on which is part of the reason they are used in training.

Direction finding equipment is used in helping to find where a specified place is located. The gadgets are attached to the chopper and are also available for personal use. They need skills of reading coordinates as well as interpreting maps. This knowledge is imparted during training explaining why they have to be availed.

Search and rescue teams are likely to encounter victims who are in need of medical attention. They are therefore equipped with medical tools to aid in carrying out first aid. The helicopters are also made in a way that they can accommodate such victims. Trainees have to be taught on how to make use of such equipment.
