Being a professional sportsman or woman does not just mean you have to be physically good at what you do. Of course, this is a given. However, there are other aspects that come into play as well. At some point, the athlete is going to go through a tough time. They will struggle with negative thoughts or a low confidence. It can be baffling when you are suddenly having a losing streak after being the number one in the world. You can read a couple of negative reports in the media, and this brings you down.

It is natural for the self belief to start to vanish as they progress with their matches. As negative feelings become stronger, the individual will start to believe them and be even less positive.

An athlete may be battling to take the next step forward. There are challenges involved in every sport. Often, the individual is stuck in comfort zone, especially when they are more experienced. Trying a new technique is not something that they are comfortable with. However, this is something that will work on along with the psychologist. They begin to believe in themselves during this time as they start to reach their goals, and as they notice the improvements.
