Spiritual Growth Is Necessary For Wellbeing

By Jerry King

The body does not exist in a vacuum. It depends on one's spirit and the mind. This trinity brings the fullness of a human being. Thus, spiritual growth is a matter of paramount importance. It is through spirituality that life becomes meaningful and purposeful. What one sees, touches, smells and hears is pure vanity. The things that are unseen and untouchable are the ones that matter most. Such are found in the spirituality realm. People have varied spiritual perspectives. One may think that the spiritual relates to things far above the sky. Another person may have an inward perspective.

Spiritual food is just as important as the normal food. A person's spirit deserves nourishment but few individuals do these. All that most people are concerned with is beautifying their bodies and satisfying their stomachs. Yet, the body and the stomach will be destroyed and the spirit will remain. Being beautiful and eating right have their place in wellness. However, one should not forget the need for spiritual nourishment.

The spirit is largely ignored. No wonder many people are living sad, meaningless lives. Happiness, satisfaction, and comfort are all in the spirit. Growing one's spirit can be through meditation. It can also be through prayers. Being part of a belief system will help with this matter. There is need to belong to something bigger that transcends all the cultures.

To many, life seems a mystery. Some see life as one big Rubik's cube or an unsolvable crossword puzzle. This is because of failure to connect the dots. The equation will be complete once the spirit is factored in and one will be able to enjoy the abundance of life. It is not all about flesh, blood, thoughts and emotions.

Growth is needed whether it is body wise or spirit wise. At the end of the day, what matters most is going to the next level. There are various spirit levels. With continued growing, it will reach a point where one will have spirit eyes. These will see great and amazing things that the normal eyes cannot see or comprehend.

The three major religions of the world emphasize spirituality. These are Christianity, Islam and Judaism. This is because of the belief in a Higher Being who is omnipresent and controls all the affairs of the world. There are many other religions apart from these. All of them emphasize on the purpose of one's spirit. Religious activity is usually geared towards nurturing an individual's spirit.

One can be a non-believer yet place a lot of value on issues pertaining to the spirit. It is not an issue of faith. It is more than what someone believes in. This matter is primarily about the inner self. That side that no one can see but only a person. People can only see the outside. They cannot see the soul.

Man was meant to be a spirit being. However, most humans try very much to separate themselves from their essence of being that is their spirit. Before a person was conceived and brought to this world, he existed as a spirit. With death, the body decomposes and perishes and the soul is removed and starts existing on its own.
