Understanding Color Meditation And How It Will Increase Your Sense Of Well Being

By Robert Stevens

Fifty years ago, the only people who meditated were monks living on mountain tops and a few New Age individuals who primarily kept to themselves. Today, it is a popular way to relieve stress and focus one's mind. There are convincing studies showing that meditating has a positive effect on those afflicted with Alzheimer's. Color meditation is practiced by many. It involves improving the mind body connection by focusing on the colors of Chakra.

This form of meditating is based on the seven Chakras of the Hindu religion and the colors that relate to them. Chakras, as energy sources, are also found in Buddhism and Jainism. The seven Hindu Chakras run from the bottom of your spine to the top of your head. When you meditate correctly, focusing on one or more Chakras and the colors associated with them, your body, mind, and spirit come into balance.

The base of the spine houses the root Chakra. Red is associated with it and represents the individual's life force. Focusing on it rids you of frustration and anger. The root Chakra stimulates the mind and body. It increases circulation. The sacral Chakra is found in the vicinity of your naval. This Chakra stimulates the nervous system and is associated with creativity and physical attraction. Orange is the color assigned to it.

The solar plexus Chakra is associated with yellow and located below your breastbone. Yellow is a sign of mental alertness and vitality. When you focus on yellow, you improve your sense of optimism, happiness, and improve analytical thought. Green is the color of the heart Chakra. You will find it in the center of the chest. Green is for healing. Concentrating on it will increase your sense of peace and love.

Blue represents the throat Chakra, and that is where you will find it. Meditating on blue increases confidence and self-expression. Indigo is the tone of the third eye Chakra. It's found in the middle of your forehead. Concentrating on indigo gives you peace of mind. Finally, the crown Chakra located at the very top of your head is represented by violet. Violet is the color of universal consciousness.

When you first start this form of meditating, you probably should concentrate on one specific area. Experts suggest before you begin that you think about the things that of most concern to you. If you are having trouble in a relationship for example, you need to focus on red. People who have a specific physical issues need to meditate on the tone that represents that part of the body.

To meditate on all the colors, you have to begin by creating a vision of golden light above you. As it descends and permeates your entire body, you start to relax and only then can you begin to focus on each individual Chakra. Begin with the red root Chakra, and move to the top of the skull.

Meditating can be transforming, and it is free for anyone to try. You have to keep an open mind and remove the thoughts of the day. Once you begin to form the colors in your mind, you will be amazed by the energy they unleash.
