Why People Still Trust Mediums

By Shirley Scott

For years, humans have been very keen on any attempts to contact their loved ones that have already passed on. Mediumship is one of the practices that reportedly allows the communication between the living and the dead with the help of a medium or someone who claims to be able to see and talk to dead spirits. A San Diego medium provides a means of closure for people who want to reconnect with their lost loved ones.

In many cultures, there are specific times of the year when families reunite to celebrate the death anniversary of a loved one. There are many preparations preceding the celebration. Some like to prepare feasts and others hold masses or prayers days before the anniversary. Mostly, cultures tend to celebrate events like these in a positive light.

These celebrations shed light on the value that we place on those who have already passed on. Our belief in the afterlife is primarily to blame for these practices that we celebrate. Most of the entire population has roots deeply grounded in a religious upbringing. Even now, lots of us believe that death is not the end for us.

Religions and cultures around the world commonly interpret the afterlife differently. However, almost every one has an explanation or a belief of what is to come after death, hence the idea of the afterlife is rather universal. Believers seeking to reconnect with spirits employ the services of a medium. Psychic readings are highly controversial because no physical evidence can back up any of the readings that the mediums make during a session.

Many skeptics like to point out the absurdity of this practice. Still, others claim to have successfully spoken to their deceased loved ones during sessions with a medium. What can definitely be agreed upon is that all this debate and controversy only highlights our deeply rooted traditions that have anything to do with the dead.

If psychics use their intuition to make readings, mediums take this intuition one step further. They take this energy and direct it around building a line of communication with the spirits surrounding a person. This way, they serve as the channel between the living and the deceased. Obviously, none of these are grounded on facts so there is no appropriate way to tell someone how to choose a medium.

You mainly have to rely on your sense of trust and intuition to determine whether that reader is authentic or not, especially since you can only imagine how easy it is to fake mediumship or psychic abilities. An interesting effect that frauds take advantage of is the Forer Effect. A major thing is they start off by getting gullible clients to give out important personal information before the session has even begun.

With this information, frauds can make claims that apply to almost anyone or at least to someone. With enough practice, they can make these sound believable and applicable to you because chances are, they actually do for most other people too. They can also spot physical clues like wedding rings or subtle hints like or a deep sigh in certain parts of a conversation.

Tons of practice and serious observation skills developed over time are the main tricks that frauds use to mimic a successful reading session. You would be shocked that this actually requires a certain edge of finesse and proficiency. Because of their skill, some of the claims they make can be partially true, but what helps them is mostly the practice of psychology instead of the supernatural abilities they claim to possess. Still, believers have nothing to be ashamed of in appreciating psychic abilities. It may have somehow helped them cope with grief over a tragic loss and if it does them something good, then that should ultimately be their business.
