By Janet Moore

A counselor is a very important professional in a community. There are different types of therapists who offer counseling in different areas. An Addiction Counselor MT deals with people who habitually abuse substances such as drugs and alcohol. He or she guides and encourages them to overcome their addiction.

Addiction is a sever stumbling block in any community. When people become dependent on substances that are harmful, they are not only a danger to themselves but to the community as well. It is therefore important for every community to have a therapist to manage the addicts and assist them to get better. When addicts recover, they become better human beings are useful members of the community.

When the use of these substances becomes detrimental to the user, it is time to seek the services of a counselor or therapist. If they do not get their addiction in check, they may succumb to the side effects of the abuse and die. A person is best able to recover from substance abuse if they get therapy on their own will.

Counseling pertains to mental health and it not a profession to be taken lightly. For addicts to get over their substance abuse, they require a person who is skilled and capable of dealing with a person with their weakness when it comes to substance abuse. A counselor is a cornerstone to a community plagued with addicts because when an addict gets better, they stop being a nuisance to the community.

It is a common assumption that addicts are a hazard to just themselves and thus never bother in getting the addicts help. An addict is however a burden to a community. For one thing, when they abuse substances, their mental processes are altered and they act out of the norm. An example is when a person over indulges in alcohol, they become violent and abusive harming those around them.

Addicts are not capable of being useful members of the community. They cannot hold down a job because of their addictions. The substances in their systems make them incapable to focus enough to do a good job and in many cases they are unkempt and are short tempered making no one want to have them in their employ.

The substances an addict abuses are more often than not expensive and without the ability to hold down a job, they cannot afford to sustain their habits. But since they need the substances, they will turn to unscrupulous ways to find money to feed their addiction. Some of the ways they do this is by stealing from the public or their family members. It is especially dangerous when they rob a person under the influence as they are more violent and may cause harm or worse, kill.

It is therefore important for a community to rehabilitate the addicts in their midst if not for the benefit of the addict then for their own. They can do this by having a community based counselor who keeps up with the addicts in the society. He or she guides the addicts to become better members of the society.
