If You're Going To Grow, Grow For Yourself

By Evan Sanders

When we focus on being the best person we can be, we let go of the pressure and expectation of what others think we should be.

The society we have been brought up in has fed us this narrative that we always have to be something more than who we are.

We always have to be funnier, wealthier, skinnier, fitter, and everything else in the book. All of these things make us believe that we aren't good enough at all and that is the farthest thing from the truth. The truth is, we all have unique gifts that we were given and we just need to uncover ourselves from the endless stories we have been fed to truly see those gifts. If we fail to take off our masks, no one will ever truly see us for who we are.

It's a hell of a lot easier to be living a life exactly as who you are instead of always trying to be someone else.

If you are going to head down the road of personal development, you really have to take one thing into mind. You have to understand why you are doing it. If you are doing it for someone else, you are probably going to fail. But if you do it for yourself because you see something more for yourself, you will eventually build something you can be incredibly proud of.

When you begin developing for people or because someone just told you to do it, you don't actually end up believing in what you're doing. Unfortunately, development becomes something that you cross off a list instead of a lifetime journey. Even worse, you may end up resenting the person you are doing it for.

Love and appreciate the things, people, and life that you have right now. Accept where you are at and then if you want to build something different for yourself, dive into it fully. Dive into it because you believe in it. Dive into it because it's something that you want to do and it's something that will make you incredibly proud. That's a life that you can be happy about.

Because in the end, if we stay true to ourselves, we could never hang our heads about how we lived our lives.
